Homes For Sale in Poquoson VA.  Poquoson is one of the oldest continuously named cities in Virginia.  Quite a feat in an area known to have been settled in 1628.  The English often renamed settlements when they colonized this part of Virginia throughout the 17th century.

Poquoson continues to share some community services with it’s neighboring York County.  Even though it became an incorporated town in 1952 and an independent city in 1975.  Thereby establishing itself as a politically independent entity.

The current City of Poquoson, not unlike other communities on the peninsula, currently significantly larger than it was during the early days of that English colonization. The first reference to the city believed to be when it was opened for settlement in 1628.  Also occupied by people who had as part of a land grant. Many of the original settlers part of the Virginia Colony known as Kecoughtan established in 1610.  Established by Sir Thomas Gates. Kecoughtan eventually became part of what we know today as Hampton.

The City of Poquoson continues as a vibrant and active community well known for it’s annual Seafood Festival.  In addition, beautiful marsh land and the marina out at Messick Point.
